To prepare for the JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) in a few days(!), I’ve been translating one Japanese article per day into English. My friend prodded me to post my translations, so I’ve decided to do that here.

I typically only translate the first four or five paragraphs, as it can be time-consuming, but I find it’s really good practice and improves my reading comprehension.

Today’s translation is based on this article. Unfortunately you hear a lot of stories like this in Japan…

Disciplinary Measures Taken Against 33-Year-Old Male Employee of Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry Who Took Sneak Photos of Woman in Bathroom of National Diet Building

The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry took disciplinary measures against a male employee who had charges filed against him for taking sneak photos of a woman in a bathroom inside the National Diet Building, suspending him from work for nine months.

The person who received the disciplinary actions is a 33-year-old male employee who belonged to the general affairs section of the secretariat of the cabinet minister of the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry.

This employee had charges filed against him for violating a Tokyo anti-nuisance ordinance, after taking sneak photos with his smartphone of a woman in her 20’s in a bathroom inside the National Diet Building in April of this year.

According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry, the employee at the time was in charge of the Diet’s communications, and as of the 1st he has been suspended from work for nine months for taking sneak photos.

Also at that time, Vice Minister Tada Akihiro (? Somebody’s name) who was the Chief Cabinet Secretary, and the manager who was the employee’s direct boss, were given strict reprimands for their management responsibilities.
